On Thursday night (because there was no music practice) Jill and I went to see 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'. It was a good yarn and very 'NZ' in its humour and story.
We had to stay and watch the credits as this was one of the films Ben worked on and it was really awesome to see his name come up in the credits (and not right at the end either!).
One of the themes in the film that came out to me was the unconditional acceptance that Bella had for the boy (Ricky Baker) and how she included him in her world.
And just last week I listened to a really awesome Ted Talk by a guy called Johaan Hari on addiction. In it, after a lot of research, he concluded that addicts need unconditional love, acceptance and community. At the end of the Ted Talk (which I highly recommend you listen to) when Johaan was summing things up the way he was talking was almost as if Jesus was talking - he was saying exactly the same things as Jesus in the way we should treat people.
Then a few weeks ago I went to a missions conference where the speaker was talking about honour and shame in the Bible. And his conclusion - the same.
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:10-11
