At Bible-in-schools recently I did the story of Tarore. (If you have not heard of the story please look it up and learn it. It is a profoundly important story in the history of NZ and the spread of the Gospel among Maori.)
It is an incredible story of how the simple application of the 'Jesus way' can have life changing and long lasting effects on a person, a group and a nation. Just one person deciding to do the right thing can have widespread effect.
It is a story of the gospel values being lived in a person, then a community's life and how impacts others. It is also a story about the power of forgiveness and that in the end, revenge and payback are killers of life and happiness.
Forgiveness is not a just a word - it is an action that must be applied. It is a decision of the will, not a feeling. It is proactive and not reactive and it is at the heart of the 'Jesus way'.
Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
