There are many ways to pray. There are helpful mnemonics to remember what to say, there are many examples from the Bible including instruction from Jesus himself, there are quick urgent prayers said in the heat of the moment and extended passionate prayer times.
I will not claim to be an expert in any of them, in fact just the opposite. Lately I've identified this as something I need to work on and I thought I'd talk to the Friday Frenzy kids about prayer last week.
I thought about teaching them the ACTS mnemonic (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) but all those words are way too long for intermediate school kids, and maybe for us grown-ups too. Perhaps we should start with some simpler words, Please, Thank you, Sorry. Please ... keep us safe on the roads. Thank you ….. for loving me. Sorry …… for the selfish thing I did today.
