The other night I watched Seven Sharp where the presenters discussed the sins Israel Folau listed. They then proceeded to accept that they ticked some of the boxes: the guest they were interviewing also admitted to ticking one of the boxes. "Well", said Hillary Barry, "we can all party together in hell."
This upsets me somewhat and I spent much of the night awake wondering, thinking and praying. Eventually I decided to write a letter to the editor of the Herald so, with Emily's encouragement, I came up with the letter below and left to God as to whether or not it got published. (It did - unedited.)
All is forgiven.
Do not despair if you have ticked one or more of Israel Folau's boxes for drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists or idolaters and have been assigned (with much of the rest of mankind) to hell to "party" there.
In heaven there is also a party going on for drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters. The difference? They are forgiven because of Good Friday when Jesus took the punishment for all humankind's sin. They have asked for and can be assured of forgiveness. I know where I'd rather be partying.
