As a whanau we went to see the film 'Chasing Great'. It was quite an inspiring film/doco about leadership and excellence. As a young man Richie McCaw was challenged by an uncle to put down some goals. Once he got to what he thought was the biggest goal or dream his uncle said, "then what?" He was encouraged to aim to become a 'Great All Black'. He was a bit embarrassed by this and then could only write, G A B. The movie talked about different aspects of Richie's life and his pursuit to become a 'G A B'. It was not about one aspect of his life but everything pointing to that end goal. As I watched and then reflected back on it, I thought it was an inspirational movie. It was all about Richie and his attitude, commitment, sacrifice, hard work and single mindedness.
At Lifegroup on Thursday we were looking at our relationship with Jesus Christ and where we are now compared to last year; have we plateaued and are just cruising along as Christians or are growing closer to God and falling more in love with Him? What is our strategy to achieve greatness for God? Can this happen? What does it look like? Can we become a G C (Great Christian)? To be a G A B, lots of people will see what you are doing and who you are and agree that is what you are; to be a G C you may not have that public recognition, only God may know.
Jer 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
I know that one plan God has is that we are not mediocre in our relationship with Him; but that we are striving to be a G C.
