Malo lelei everyone! Yes, it's that time of the year again - the festive season, the season to be jolly!
School is about to end, most workplaces are about to end, and as another year is about to end everyone looks forward to taking time for holidays, rest, travel, reflection and some people will start forecasting and planning for the year to come. Whatever you plan to do, let's remind ourselves the word of the prophet Haggai. In fact, the word Haggai means "Festival", an appropriate meaning given the prophet's work in restoring the temple worship.
Haggai 1:5 says, "Give careful thought to your ways".
God's message through the prophet Haggai was to force the Jews people who had been returned from the exile in Babylon to really see where their priorities lay.
We can understand where the Jewish people's focus might lie after returning from the exile; each family focusing on rebuilding their own life. However, after 20 years of doing things for themselves, the house of the Lord still lay in ruins (v4). Something was not quite right so the Lord told them to consider and give careful thought to their ways.
As we come to the end of the year and another year is about to begin, let us consider what we are putting first.
