On my walks through Cornwall Park I have been noticing the different trees and there are hundreds. I have been fascinated by the shapes and sizes especially the branches. The oak trees have branches that are twisted in all sorts of angles, there are knots and kinks and misshapen branches. But at the end of the trees are green leaves and in some trees, fruit.
Some of them have lost their leaves due to the winter but come spring and there will be beautiful green leaves again. Branches that have broken off or are just hanging on usually don't survive.
As I was thinking about the branches I thought of us as individuals. We are not perfect. most of us have knots and twists, strengths and weaknesses. Despite this we all have the ability to be spirituality productive and bear fruit as long as we are connected to Jesus. He gives us the strength, energy and nourishment. We need to do our part by daily communication, daily surrender and daily repentance. The more we allow the Holy Spirit free reign in our lives the more fruit we will bear.
Jesus said Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
Are you connected to Jesus? If not maybe today is the day.
