Mt Wellington Community Church

Over this last week I have had a few conversations with people around how you should treat people; all sorts of people. It doesn't matter if they are white, black, brown, young, old, teenagers, fat, skinny, rich, poor, happy, sad; ANYONE. My thought was, with love and respect. I remember a conversation with a teacher about 15 years ago. He said, "How come you have some of the worst kids in your teams and yet they are fine for you?" I told him that it was because I treated them with respect. I didn't demand respect from them, but because I respected them, they in turn respected me.

When Jesus was asked what the greatest command in the law, Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matt 22:37-40

When we do the first part, the second should just flow out of that. We are called to love our neighbour as ourselves, that is the ultimate in respect. If we are able to do this better our community with be a lot better for it. We know the 'Golden Rule', Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31.

So let us respect those around us and love our neighbours as ourseleves.
